This painting, whose measures are unknown to me, even though I have seen it very often during my infancy, is, with no doubt, the highest canvas conserved in the family. I would dare to say that it is not far from 2 metres high. The lighted face and smile of Alice reading a letter and the silk of her emerald gown make all her beauty. Curiously, this portrait, that I saw really big when I was a little child, frightened me a little because it was hung on the walls of a dark parlour at my grandparents’ house. It was taking photographs when I discovered the charm of this work. Now, I receive informations about measures: canvas 1, 96 x 1, 50 without frame.
