This painting represents the grounding of one or two boats lashed by the waves against the rocks on a beach, and it seemed impossible to me that an impassible naturalist artist as my grandfather was painted it, as he used to paint what he saw. This painting was in the house of this friend that I found in Le Mans, but it took us time to discover the mystery of the painting called The wreck by the family. What was written on top of Jacques Barcat’s signature had to be deciphered: According to Jules Noël. It was indeed a copy of the oil on canvas entitled Grounding by the great painter Jules Achille Noël. This Breton artist was specialist in maritime matters of Brittany and Normandy. Nobody knows where Jacques Barcat could contemplate, so as to make a copy of it, this beautiful painting that was for a long time in a private art collection.
