Also from our friends of the Royer family, here we have the pleasure of seeing Mrs Royer, sitting in her beach chair with her back to the sea. She is busy with her sewing or needlework, but keeps an eye on her nephew, who is still very young and is playing in the sand with a spade and a bucket. The scene takes place in the summer of 1939, not long before the outbreak of the Second World War. Jacques Barcat and his wife Alice had been invited by their friends of the Royer family to spend a few days with them by the sea in Brittany.
